Duck race helps ex-servicemen

The Great Amesbury Duck Race held on bank holiday Monday was a great success – 1,054 ducks took part in three races with the £4,530 raised so far for BLESMA – The British Limbless Ex-Servicemen’s Association.

Andy Derry, organiser of the Duck Race, said “A big thank you to all the sponsors, helpers and to the general public who not only supported the event by buying ducks but who came along on the day – a record crowd of approx 300 came along to see the races”.

The winner of the Giant Duck Race, sponsored by The Stonehenge Chamber of Trade and with 24 giant ducks bought by local businesses, was Kingmans Butchers with duck number 11.

The winner of the Bassets Sales and Lettings Race was Mrs Katie Provett with duck number 15; and the winner of the M W Duckett Race with duck number 349 was Amy Jenkins.
