Shop Local scheme turns 1

Shop Local scheme turns 1

Amesbury’s shop local scheme is going from strength to strength a year after it was launched, say organisers Stonehenge Chamber of Trade.

The scheme was introduced as a way to encourage people to continue to shop locally - retailers each contribute to the monthly cash prize which is drawn from the completed cards handed in for that month’s draw.

The scheme has been so successful that it is now expanding into Durrington and other local villages. Durrington Discount Stores and Bits n Pieces are the first Durrington businesses to become involved and Stonehenge Chamber of Trade hope that the scheme will continue to grow in the village.

The Amesbury Tandoori has also joined the scheme so members can now even get a stamp with their curry.

Over the year there has been a winner each month, each receiving a cash prize of £100. At the Christmas draw last year there were additional prizes of three hampers and again this year’s Christmas draw will feature hampers as extra prizes.

The lucky winners will be presented with their prizes at the switching on of Amesbury’s Christmas lights on Wednesday, 30 November.

This month’s shop local winner was Ann May from Amesbury. The ticket was drawn by Sue Todd from JP Todd Glass & Glazing and the £100 cash prize was presented by Simon Mulley from Bassets Estate Agents in Amesbury.

The scheme has recently re-launched its Facebook page detailing participating businesses offers at www.facebook.com/shoplocalamesbury
