Snap up a serviceman at job fair

North Wiltshire companies looking to steal a march on their competitors when it comes to recruiting are invited to join the Armed Forces Job Fair and Networking Event in Tidworth on October 6.

Around 500 service leavers are expected to attend the event, which is organised by the British Forces Resettlement Service.

And the North Wiltshire business community will be represented at the event by the North Wiltshire Economic Partnership and Wiltshire Council.

Colette Mallon, partnership manager, explained: “Across the three services, between 20,000 and 24,000 people leave a service profession out of choice every year and an additional 11,000 people will be given a redundancy package over the next three years due to Governmental cuts.

“These leavers include highly skilled individuals such as engineers, IT managers, drivers, chefs, nurses, pilots, operations and facilities managers, communication experts and many more.

“Service leavers have years of training and experience in highly pressurised environments, are used to deadlines, targets and are extremely self-disciplined and motivated, many with highly incomparable skills in the civilian market.

“These skills and many more are of course extremely sought after in north Wiltshire´s civilian job market and are very transferable into any workplace.

“The military is a large and important employer in north Wiltshire and we are proud to be working with our colleagues in the armed forces to match former servicemen and women with north Wiltshire employers.”

North Wiltshire businesses that might be interested in employing service leavers, or who would like to attend the event in person, should contact Colette at Colette.Mallon@wiltshire.gov.uk or log on to www.bfrss.org.uk
