People who work from home are invited to come attend the Wootton Bassett Chamber of Commerce home-workers drop-in meeting tomorrow (Wednesday).
The event is a new idea organised by the Chamber’s newly elected Vice-president, Suzanne Gore, as a way of bringing people who run a home-based business together to socialise and network.
Wootton Bassett and the surrounding areas have long been home to a high percentage of home-based businesses.
While working from home can have many advantages, it is also generally recognised as being isolating at times.
Home-workers often find it more difficult to converse with others and network in the same way as those who work in a more populated environment.
Suzanne said: ‘Based from a home office myself, I recognise the challenges which this type of working brings.
"The Chamber’s aim is to provide a venue where people who run businesses from home can meet up informally with others in the same position, and to encourage a social and business support network throughout the local area.”
The meeting is open to all workers - whether members of the chamber or not - employed or self-employed, full or part-time,
A small donation is all that is requested from non-Chamber members to cover refreshment costs.
It is hoped that enough home-based businesses will be interested in getting this new venture off the ground for it to become a regular event.
The meeting will be held at Church Croft, next to St Bartholomew’s Church in the town’s High Street, on Wednesday July 21.
The event is very informal with the opportunity to call in at any time between 2pm and 4.30pm for coffee, biscuits and chat.
