Network among the artwork

Bassett business people are invited to network informally amongst an exhibition of students’ art in Wootton Bassett’s museum in the town hall on Thursday, November 3 from 6pm.

The Chamber of Commerce is working with year 11 Wootton Bassett School students, who are running the exhibition as part of a business initiative.

The exhibition includes paintings, drawings, photographs and sculptures, and will be open to members of the public during the day with free entry from 10am until 3pm.

Then a ticket-only, informal networking and viewing event will run in the evening at a cost of £5 per person, which includes a glass of wine and light snacks.

The students’ project requires them to put together a plan for a new business venture which they will run alongside their studies with the aim of making a profit by next year.

They will eventually get to keep a percentage of the money earned to help them in launching their own business for real when they leave school in 2012.

However, with no funding to get their new businesses off the ground, the students have had to come up with ideas to generate some capital; one of which was to hold an exhibition of art produced at the school which they will sell to raise funds.

Angie Reeves from Wootton Bassett Chamber, who has helped the students with their planning, said: “This is a great opportunity for our Chamber of Commerce to support students in their business skills learning, whilst also enjoying an evening of networking and socialising amongst a fabulous art exhibition in the historic setting of our town hall.

"We hope that many people will come along to enjoy this unique event and help to encourage our next generation of young business people.”
